Here, it’s simple: I’ll even go first. As a white person raised in a frequently racist society, I’ve said racist things before. I didn’t get it at the time, but they were still racist and harmful, regardless of my intent. And if I do it again, I deserve to be held accountable.

You’re feeling uncomfy right now, I’d guess, because you’re feeling like this definition of racism means you’ve said racist things too. Don’t try and twist the definition to exonerate yourself uncritically. Admit the error, commit to doing better, and listen to others speak.
