Just saw the big cat scruff the little cat, tip him on his side, and then stand on him? Literally walking in place on his flank while holding onto his scruff? No hissing or growling from either, though the little cat looked understandably confused. What strange ritual is this??

Update: the little cat is loafed on the couch and looking simultaneously asleep and put-upon as the big cat licks him.

It happens *all the time* in our household. Not all cats do it. But one uses licking as a dominance weapon while friends are like ‘aw how cute’ and it’s like, no, she’s being mean and annoying him and/or trying to steal his spot.

The little one is chill with the licking - he's a bit disabled & can't groom himself, so it's necessary grooming. He also doesn't understand regular cat behaviour & so sometimes is confused, but the big one is more like "you are a dumb weird kitten but I like you."

Yeah the specific ‘put upon’ wording along with previous tweet made me think dominance display! But I’m not there to see it and cats lick for lots of reasons.

lol, fair. I said 'put upon' because his eyes were sort of slitted like he was glaring, but in an anthropomorphised way, not a sad cat way.

Slitted eyes in cats are actually a sign of contentment and happiness!

Which is frequently hilarious, because he gets all slitted-eyed and stare-y after dinner and he looks, by human standards, SO MAD, when really he's just full of gravy.

I expect this is a friendly happy thing, especially if the new kitty senses that BB is a little... Special

If it’s possible for cats to be neurodivergent for their species, then I think BB is. He doesn’t know to do ear-language or a lot of other regular cat-to-cat interactions; he just slowly walks away if he loses interest, and Quango is like ???
