not to open my third eye too wide but I feel like the reason the meme generations are all obsessed with chaos is because we subconsciously recognise that it's the only force powerful enough to uproot toxic locked-in systems, so why not trust in the Horrible Goose of the Universe?

Because the goose doesn’t care whether chaos leads to better systems or more toxic, more firmly locked ones. It’s a goose. When the world stops shaking it’s still humans making the systems, and one of the reasons they make bad ones is fear of goose rampages.

Also, dark secret: all the power in the town derives from millions of geese on treadmills in a giant underground cavern below the sports hall.

I begin to suspect that societal goose denialism is a root of our ills.

I think denial of racism and structural oppression is probably a bigger one tbh

Well, I didn’t specify a hierarchy of ills. However, if we’re being serious: what do you say to the idea that much of European effort over the last 250 years has been about denying the limits of the possible? And thus now we have a fetishised childlike was inability to hear “no”?

(I’m thinking particularly of climate denial, but there are so many venues, Brexit & Trump obvs, where the electorate is offered a banquet of cakeism and goes for it. Can’t help feeling this is post-Imperial/enlightenment myth hangover. VVVVV but the universe is not conquerable.)

I think denying the limits of the possible has been a side-effect or rich people wanting to get richer at the expense of everyone else, maintaining as much cultural stasis as possible to hang onto wealth and power bc change threatens their traditional monopolies
