We live in a period where tech has developed so quickly and in so many ways that private corporations own what are functionally public services, but in a context where nobody wants the legal/moral maintenance of those services to be decided by business interests.

I’m not sure which prospect unsettles me more: the idea of incompetent governments trying to collectively nationalise digital platforms, or the thought that corporations might stop skirting the legal/moral implications of their tech and embrace their roles as public enforcers.
