I can’t sleep so I looked this book up on Amazon and I would bet actual cash money that Dean Klein wrote all the five star “verified purchase” reviews himself, because they all use the same voice and distinctive syntax as his unwieldy blurb.
Seriously: compare the phrasing, comma placement, hyperbole and comparative examples (eg better than Poltergeist) to the blurb and it is THE EXACT GODDAMN SAME, THIS DUDE IS SHAMELESSpic.twitter.com/LleR8PZWrZ
“NO ONE COULD EVER IMAGINE COMBINGING A LOVE STORY WITH A SUPERNATURAL THRILLER BUT DAN KLEIN HAS DONE IT” says a verified account whose only two book reviews are of Klein’s work and whose other reviews are all one-sentence briefs of random items.pic.twitter.com/K6laio85iT
I'm pretty sure I've met a few of these guys...
WOW, I can't even breathe through all the privilege in there.
Also, pretty sure the spirits in Poltergeist didn't just float down the stairs. And that I'd definitely rather watch that movie than read this book.pic.twitter.com/PHelk9R5bw
The book actually did get a good review from The SF Site, but I wasn’t familiar with the reviewer. Does anyone know more about that site’s reviews? https://www.sfsite.com/00a/hs406.htm
I am suspicious. I looked at some of the sample pages on Amazon and was not impressed.
