Just had my first experience of booking a GP visit in the US using my medical insurance. It's November 6th. The earliest appointment I could get with my mandated practitioner? December 11th. Every USian who's ever yelled about wait times under socialised medicine can SHUT UP.

My dude, I’m an Australian who spent five years living in the UK - both Scotland and England. This is the first time I’ve ever lived anywhere without socialised medicine and I can tell you straight up that it’s better.

Vaccines are free under socialised medicine. Visits are cheaper. You can see any GP. All maternity care is free in most places. Chemo is free. Most surgeries are free. The US is the only developed nation where people routinely declare medical bankruptcy.

Ambulances are overwhelmingly free and where hey cost money, it’s vastly cheaper than in the US. In the US, EMTs frequently report being turned away by gravely injured people who don’t want their families to go into debt. People die of diabetes because of the cost of insulin.

Also, if you think a society crippled by medical debt and preventable illnesses isn’t also costing you, think again.

*hundreds of thousands* of people per year declare medical bankruptcy in the US. in other developed countries, the number who do so per year is in the *thousands* or lower.
