How an entity so comprehensively dedicated to intransigence and bureaucratic pettifogging can possibly hope to deal with the hugely expanded workload necessitated by a hard
#Brexit is beyond me. They simply won't cope, and any UK citizens wanting visas should beware.Show this thread -
In all respects, the UK visa authority almost perfectly fits the description that Douglas Adams famously gave to his Vogons: "Not actually evil, but bad-tempered, bureaucratic, officious and callous" - the "almost" is because these days, yeah: they actually ARE evil, too.

In conclusion: the marriage of xenophobia and bureaucratic incompetence is one of the ugliest in the modern world, and that's saying something. The UK isn't alone in perpetuating this particular evil, so let it be a lesson to everyone on a similar path to FIX THAT SHIT NOW. FIN

My experience of the Australian visa while getting my permanent residency was almost identical. I think they make these things as stressful as possible :(

Like I have an Irish passport but was born in the U.K. I was told by the AU consulate that this was impossible and very unusual (lol it's not) and even that there was a 3rd Irish state (not northern or the republic and that must be where I'm from...)

This is terrible. Neighbours of my Nan have had a bad experience also, they are both Canadians working in the U.K. and just had to leave the country for 3 months because the visa office hadn't got around to their paperwork due to Windrush.

That’s horrendous. I hope you have put this awful experience behind you and are happy in Aus. Just shows how unprepared the arrogant little Englanders are about what confronts them. Good luck!

I had a Kafkaesque experience when renewing my Grandparent Entry Certificate (now the Ancestry one) in the mid’90s at the aptly named Lunar House in Croydon. It all ended in wasted time, day off work with no pay, wasted costs & travel and no renewed visa. My MP at time helped me.

Mine was due for renewal in 2001, rang them to ask how far in advance to send it in. Told to just apply for indefinite leave to remain, fill in a form, send in with passport, done in 4 weeks. Rules and conditions change without warning, I timed it right
