Okay, I’m really tired of having to say this, but it needs to be said again. Doughty was accused of sexual assault. Prosecutors decided not to follow through with charges because they said the alleged victim’s story was not credible. So please, keep him out of your mouths.https://twitter.com/fozmeadows/status/1013982047491125249 …

The whole point is that rich male athletes are constantly let off the legal hook and excused for bad or criminal behaviour, to the point where a judge saying Doughty’s accuser wasn’t credible means jack shit.

To be clear: I would *like* to believe that Doughty was cleared because he was innocent. But when so many athletes are given a pass because they’re athletes, you can’t trust that their money and job isn’t putting a thumb on the scale, esp when assault is rarely prosecuted anyway.

So presumed guilty until proven innocent, then? I mean that’s essentially what you’re saying. You’re saying Doughty didn’t get charged for raping somebody because he’s rich and famous, and that’s clearly not the case.

Why is that *clearly* not the case, though? There was a case recently where a judge ruled that a 13yo girl “clearly” consented to being gang-raped because she acted “older than her age”. When the system has a clear bias against female victims & towards rich men, what can u trust?

I’m not saying there aren’t corrupt judges. I’m only speaking to Doughty’s instance. There is literally no evidence to suggest that he did anything wrong.

Except the fact that he was accused in the first place, and the fact that false reports of rape/sexual assault are like 0.3% of all reported cases, whereas the stat for actual cases that are dismissed is much, much higher.
