A good read. I'd disagree with the assertion that Shaw is secondary though; he's a very prominent, long-standing character who is important and reoccurring enough to have his own cinematic model. And on the flip side, I wouldn't call Tess prominent; she's very sparsely used.

I mean, Shaw is a secondary character. That's not to say he isn't important, or has value. Or even prominence in plot. Often times supporting characters do. He is just that. A supporting character, his overarching plot being to further the main cast's plot. Anduin. Jaina. Etc.

He doesn't have the weight like Talanji. Thrall. Jaina. Baine. Anduin. Tess (soonTM?). Characters who are larger players, main characters, who define not only the races they are a part of but represent them as well.

I do agree Tess isn't prominent as say Genn. But it seems we're setting her up to be a central character given Genn's plot is starting to wrap up.

For sure, it just read to me (perhaps incorrectly) that Shaw wasn't as important, but Shaw has been around a LONG time and for a long-standing character to be confirmed gay is a pretty big thing, which I love. I don't want Genn's story to wrap up tho, I love him :((((

I think they just meant that in the end strong representation comes from making a main characters queer in some way or another. Esp w/ the context that often times queer rep is just relegated secondaries in story telling largely told by a heterosexual gaze. Not a jab... /1

... at Blizz or that they aren't allies. Just a note that we still have a massive cast of main characters who are still presented relatively heterosexual. And our first canon homosexuals are secondary characters. Which isn't to say it isn't a good step, as Shaw... /2

... is a character with relative prominence and has an interesting dynamic with Flynn. But that's still the bare minimum. I hope this doesn't sound too condescending. I don't want it to be taken that I don't appreciate the work coming in ShL for queer rep. /3

Not condescending at all. I think I've just been arguing semantics at this point lol, which isn't the issue at hand. There are several protags I'd love to see queer and have a lot of wiggle room to make queer, and I'm trusting the writing team to flesh out the cast when they can.
