Blizzard: *releases a book, because more ways to enjoy a story is fun and expands on lore that gameplay won't always allow for* People: H O W D A R E Y O U I get it, playing through certain story beats would be awesome. It ain't always gonna be possible. Books are fun.

Im not trying to say books aren't good, or fun. BUT, I do strongly agree that story beats for games need to be told in the game. Especially if they're quite key points, as we saw over and over being missed in BFA. This isnt just a WoW problem. Halo was utterly chronic for this.

Finding the balance is important, absolutely. War Crimes set up WoD in ways that didn't even get mentioned in-game. But with a game built the way WoW is, fitting EVERY beat in there in a way that is fun to play is kind of impossible.

I agree in theory, but it is a bit difficult to reconcile this with certain cutscenes in the game that have little to do with player interaction. For example, a scene where all you do is observe Jaina secretly meeting with and talking to Derek and Calia.
-
Point being - if they can do that in game, they could surely do other bookish story events in game too, for players who care to pursue them, right?

Yeah but we buy each expansion, and then pay a monthly subscription, so of course people are mad if they then have to pay more money on top of that for the complete story. I agree all mediums have a place, but not being able to get the full story of a sub game, in game, is silly
