I've always felt that there's a place for every medium of storytelling. From movies, to books, to animations, to gameplay. Books comparatively let you dive deeper in some areas that would be almost impossible to make 'fun' in a game.

How many people would want to sit through endless dialogue cutscenes? Or endless dialogues of text from NPCs? People just want to run up, get their quest, and keep moving. Forcing people to read some sort of intermission NPC behavior is just dumb IMO.

I agree. I love the books and enjoy getting a deeper look into some of the characters. That said, some bits of lore should find a way into the game still. So many people didn't know anything about Calia Menethil and the human/undead meeting for example.

For sure, they gotta find that perfect balance (War crimes was particularly important to WoD's set up and it was barely touched on in-game) but so many people demand all this lore be in the game, like. Can't be done y'all

Actually I think book format would have been better suited than game format for war campaign in BFA Well I enjoyed it anyway, but still, I wonder how that would have been

The people who complain about having to read the books for more understanding of the lore are the ones who dont read the quest dialogs.

The thing about the books is, they’re not required reading to be able to play through the expansions. I’m reading through them slowly and I read BTS before BFA launched, but it didn’t really change my experience of the expansion to that of my friend who doesn’t read the books

When we ran into points from the books or more likely characters. I’d point it out. He thought it was cool but ultimately I didn’t have a one up... I feel people think they’re missing out on something when they’re not loosing anything by not reading them.

I think big part of the problem is they don't put that store/lore in the game but do hint at it or sometimes directly work with it, which kinda leaves people who only play the game and don't read the books out of the loop.
