I've *never* been confident smiling and I despite being in photos, since camera lenses really show up how far back my jaw is. And I've been thinking, gosh, wouldn't it be nice to be happy with my smile???

All I remember about the process is that I'd have all my back teeth out, braces for two years, surgery to break the hell out of my jaw and more braces for up to another 2 years. I remember watching a video of a guy puking blood after his surgery. Gnarly, also wtf

I'm also 31 next month, and part of me wonders if I should just try and make peace with my slightly off (13mm slightly off...) jaw, cause being in braces at 35 doesn't sound overly fun.

I’d say look into it again. Procedures change, technology and knowledge advances. It’s good to make peace with things, but it’s also good to be happy with how you look. So basically, this comment is of no help at all.

Your post was one of my "so-and-so" follows, but since I had double jaw surgery last year I can't resist posting. :) Like you, I was "old" for braces, but I got ceramic and they were hardly noticeable. I'm incredibly happy with my results and very glad I did it.

I know the before and after process seem like forever, but once it’s done you have results for life. The first week was the hardest. After that you’re mostly dealing with impatience. I was prepared for a harrowing recovery, but it was mostly painless (and involved no vomiting).
