We all start off with no industry exp! It's true a lot of places want it but there are many places who won't mind less experience for the right person. What industry were you looking into?

I always wanted to do game art but seeing established portfolios my work is high school trash, I'm also trying comics/design roles

It really isn't trash friend
But more experienced and skilled artists than both of us occasionally won't get a job because their style isn't the right fit. If you know certain places you'd like to work for, try catering to their style a bit, or find a studio who works close-2 vastausta 0 uudelleentwiittausta 0 tykkäystä -

If I'm honest I probably don't really have a clear goal other than 'art and design' my portfolio is a mess of styles and levels and I can imagine AD's looking (if they even do) and not knowing where the fuck I'd even be good at.

You could try out new things then, during your job search? Or practice other skills you can do? Like maybe Illustrator or After Effects if you have access to them, it makes you all the more hireable. But don't be afraid to cater to a handful of places you'd like to get hired at-

-I had to cater the hell out of my demo reel to get my first job. And honestly, that first job was a lucky break. Someone was willing to give me a shot. It absolutely SUCKS looking around but eventually things do come through, you gotta keep at it!

UK, in the east region, several hours trainride to any major city. I want to work on my portfoilio but I don't know "what" to do, what I should be focusing on, I regret doing a 2nd webcomic because I know it won't help me at all.

A webcomic would be great skills to show to a storyboarding job! Honestly any side project of your own will help your portfolio, put it in your CV to show your background/experience/self-motivation, that's what I did. It's still in my CV! Would you be willing to move?

I want to say yes but I have NO savings to do so. My family is poor and I have to pay rent to them.

I do also wanna say, job hunting really really blows. It's depressing and stressful and a slog, but a rejection doesn't reflect on you as a person. you're great at what you do and will only get better. And I have a print of yours on my wall so
