There doesn't appear to be a connection to Trump's rhetoric based on what's available online by the Capital Gazette shooting suspect. His bizarre feud with the paper goes back to at least 2011.

Technically, that may be true; and maybe he would have done it anyway. But in such an anti-media climate, with no rules of civility, this could encourage some guy with a vendetta to feel like it's okay to act on it.

There's no "maybe". Ramos had his deranged beef with them and it had nothing to do with Trump. Reporters who used this horrendous crime to hit on Trump and imply culpability demonstrated exactly why he disdains them.

That isn't what I said. But he has created a hate-filled, anti-press environment. (By the way, Mr Trump both disdains and loves the press: he hates them when they criticize or correct his false statements, but he loves their attention & wants their praise.)

I went to school for journalism to try to learn to love them. It only makes me dislike them more. They break nearly every “rule” you learn in the first two years.

Your intentionally missing the point. Great deal of "journalism" today just quotes random tweets that support the story their team is spinning. Journalism is a top down endeavor now, the parties release their "statements" and a million articles and "takes" come out repeating it.
