    Don't use bool types for every two-state situation. Only use them for things which are conceptually a true/false value. Success/failure return values, for example, should use a named enumeration instead.

    I find it interesting that almost half don't use exceptions because of the invisible control flow. Some would say it is the biggest feature of exceptions. Do you want a call-site annotation for throwing functions like Swift does or just an annotation on the function decl?
