That's especially funny because all what Alan Watts did his entire life, his income depended on it, was to answer such questions.
Alan was a trickster. Very likeable, but still a trickster.

We all are. The more you read/listen to him, the more you realize he was always delightfully upfront about it.
Like he says in one talk on Zen: “Lao-tzu says: ‘those who speak [about the Way] do not know’—and yet he *said* that, and went on to write a book about it.”
Consistency is a virtue of small minds… :-)
