“Schizophrenia” is a modernist misinterpretation of a diverse variety of unconventional ways of perceiving and interpreting reality. Reject contaminating the human experience with the hubris of psychology

There's some truth in this, which is that we can view someone's inner difficulties as schizophrenia when they need help, and it's otherwise impossible for them to live happy, healthy lives on their own terms Outside a medicinal context, we all benefit from a more expansive frame

If the medicinal (and societal) approach is to label a person experiencing these variations in consciousness sick and insane, instead of recognizing what they go through as fundamental (even if rare) parts of the human experience, it’s no wonder it tends to turn out badly.

Alan Watts expressed this wonderfully in this lecture: “not that there may be a high incidence of mental sickness, but that there may be a high incidence of intolerance of variations of consciousness” (@ 7:01) youtu.be/eksdBEIQS6g
