Fair enough. I went under on a table surrounded by doctors and and woke up facing a clock. I'm also generally much more lucid when I'm sleep. The experiences to me are qualitatively quite different.

Qualitatively different I agree, however both are in essence unconsciousness. Everyone’s periodically unconscious of everything they consider their own (or themselves)—so much so that deeper probing into this proves all attachments to such things resting on nothing already.
