Alan Watts said that the only reason to meditate—or do any spiritual practice—is if you enjoy it. All else (like trying to attain some arbitrary state of mental clarity through it) is missing the point.

I think he's wrong about this one. Sometimes zen teachers get too far up their own ass and end up saying meditation is pointless. While it's true you don't need to meditate, there is also no other reliable way to understand zen teachings firsthand.
