I think the implication in the op’s tweet is human, not animal. Otherwise there’s no discussion.

I didn’t mean it quite that literally. More just that when you—human or animal—do things out of sincere, honest selfishness, you fulfill your ‘Dharma’, supporting the whole order of the universe on your own part.

You have zero idea what actually is ‘good’ in the greater scheme of things—your perception of reality falls miserably short of being able to know it. One action seemingly good now might trigger destruction on a scale yet incomprehensible (one meaning of karma).
Hence, the best way to live is just to go on doing what you naturally, selfishly feel like doing—because that drive itself is instilled into you by the Great Tao, the Dharma, the force upholding the universe at all times.

Animals didn’t eat from the Tree of Knowledge and are thus able to live like this, without being hung up on thoughts about morality or other dumb ideals like humans. They don’t feel guilty about their existence and thus don’t destroy the world trying to justify themselves.
