Unless you let yourself be absolutely free to partake in vice and sin, you won't realize that they will never give you what you look for in them.

But we can also learn from seeing what happens to people who do harmful things to themselves...
If i see a person burn their hands by sticking it in fire, I can learn from that without burning my own.

Certainly! Hence why I said being *free* to partake—not ‘needing’ to partake. Being free to do something does not mean being under compulsion to do it.
Many just don’t learn until sticking their own hands in fire, being burned bad by it... :-)
