The most progressive thing you can do is acknowledge the devil in yourself, and to occasionally feed it with little vices, under your own lovingly watchful awareness.

Only then is its hunger not allowed to expand beyond your awareness of it; for when it is, it begins to eat away the core of your being and everything around you.
Only when it is not acknowledged—and especially when it’s condemned—can it become truly destructive.

This doesn’t mean to fan its flames with gasoline, but to be able to harness and utilize the energy released in its burning—and for that reason maintaining its fire, carefully.
