Extreme weather, inflation and the end of CalFresh Emergency Allotments have resulted in a perfect storm for residents of Santa Barbara County. We are still serving 20% more people than we were pre-pandemic. Without your support, we will not be able to fill the gap.

The CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) graduates are already back in action. Led by our Anthony Rodriguez, we are managing the SB call center (833-688-5551) with help from Foodbank CERTs from Teams 3 and 4. Lines were opened yesterday and may continue, weather dependent.

In Jan., the Labor Dept. found grocery prices were 11.3% higher than the year prior. The "hunger cliff" created by the expiration of Emergency Allotments will leave working families and older adults on fixed incomes scrambling to get by.

As of December, nearly 32,000 households in Santa Barbara County needed the assistance of CalFresh to survive. The average household is now expected to lose approximately $200 per month.

CRITICAL CHANGES coming in March (THREAD)
Since the pandemic began, CalFresh has provided Emergency Allotments to those in need.
In February, these Emergency Allotments abruptly expired. Households in Santa Barbara County will receive their last Emergency Allotment on March 26.
