Because today seems to be IT day, I drilled into why my Mac mini is running like molasses for the past umpteen months, making it totally unfit for anything interactive. Turns out, spinning rust and APFS don't play nice at all! 1/4
Back in 2014, I went with the 1TB HDD, since SDDs came for their weight in gold. And sometime over the past 2+ years, something happened which made the machine kinda unusable. But hey, I barely noticed since I really no longer had time to sit in front of it. 2/4

Booting took ages, opening a new tab in Safari took seconds! So, todays digging: 'Remember when Apple introduced APFS and said that it was "optimized for Flash/SSD storage"? Given how !easy it is to replace an internal disk on the Mac mini (prepare for surtures and stitches!), I guess I'm SOL. Gonna maybe try booting from an external disk. Or Bootcamp + Win10. 4/finis
