I can't believe how many revered designers are now saying all the visual design work they used to do was superfluous. http://www.elischiff.com/blog/2015/5/5/fall-of-the-designer-part-v-self-flagellation …

@flyosity … complete with the insistence that somehow 'UX' isn't 'User Interface'. Wh-what? These people are delusional.

@sdw I suppose "UX" is the thing you do before you actually do the design work. If you can't do nice design work, then UX is all you have.

@flyosity @sdw Do like me: Don’t give a fuck about the terms UI and UX. They’re like stupid music genres labels to me. 😜

@charavel @flyosity well said. I design stuff. If people conflate that with just doing a coat of paint, that's their own issue.

@sdw @flyosity To me, you don’t get one without the other. I don’t know why people tend to do the distinction between the two.

@charavel @sdw @flyosity People should spend more time designing rather than writing pretentious Medium articles.

@eli_schiff @jm_denis @charavel @sdw I just love that Medium is now associated with bitching about stuff. That's totally what I use it for.

@flyosity I love the points on UX, because if there's ever been an industry with an insanely confused identity crisis it's "UX design'.

@flyosity Yes your product needs to be intuitive and flow seamlessly but also needs to engage the user. IMO Visual Design plays a huge role.

@flyosity can we just stop talking about our profession like we need consensus on how to label or do things?

@lobau @flyosity Consensus isn't what I was seeking to create with the article. I aimed to point out common tendency to denigrate aesthetics

@flyosity We used to be able to dress up any bad UI in textures and shadows and call it a day. I honestly believe I do better work now.

@flyosity Design is not being good at Photoshop. Anyone can do that. Visual design is important if it improves affordance of an interaction.

@flyosity But let's not pretend like it's the core of what we do. *That* would make us instantly replaceable. Design is thinking, iterating…
