Mediocre designers love "flat design" because it takes minimal effort to execute. Rounded square + pick a color + use free icon = done.

      @Betraydan Didn't say that all flat design is executed by mediocre designers, I said that mediocre designers find flat design easier. No?

      @flyosity sorry my bad for misreading that. Mediocre designers design mediocre regardless of the type of aesthetic.

      @Betraydan Ha good point!

      @flyosity although that probably just means I'm a mediocre designer

      @yocline Nooo you're misreading me, not all who use flat design are mediocre but it's like Bootstrap, you can build nice stuff quicker.

      @flyosity indeed I have, my bad. Didn't see the entire tweet stream initially

      @flyosity is that any different than other trends? Pick a gradient, add a reflection, drop a shadow, solve 0 problems = Done

      @j_lloyd Execution of realism is difficult. It's easy to screw it up. http://flyosity.com/application-design/your-design-is-wrong-and-heres-why.php …

      @flyosity Agree completely. I do my fair share of screwing things up, but I don't think flat design is more of a crutch than previous trends

      @flyosity Mediocre visual designer here. I can confirm this. Flat design is making a wireframe and then saying screw it, that’s good enough.

    2. Mike Rundle ‏@flyosity 10 May 2013

      @ctbeiser Haha, I doubt you're mediocre, just meant there's less *stuff* to do in PS so it can be breezed through quicker :)

      @flyosity I’m pretty happy with my typographic skills and IxD chops, but believe me, I’m pretty mediocre at visual design.

      @flyosity hmm. Well, I guess google and ms have mediocre designers then :/

      @mtheoryx Yes.

      @flyosity Perhaps there’s a bit more to design than visual aesthetics though.

      @flyosity To be fair, it can be done right.

      @iamramsey And that takes an extra 30 seconds compared to the 45 that it usually takes.

      @flyosity I don't think that just because a design principle is easy doesn't necessarily make it bad, just more widely abused.

      @flyosity coming from the guy whose blog is awfully flat.

      @icstars989 Except for all those gradients and inner shadows and glows and stuff.

      @flyosity flat is not defined by one solid color my friend.
