    Privacy software developer Ola Bini, suspiciously arrested In Ecuador on the same day Julian Assange was arrested in London, has faced continual persecution for over 2 years. His trial is due in October, just before the US appeal on Assange's extradition is heard.

    I have been called to trial on October 21-22. This goes against all legal norms in Ecuador, since the previous phase of pre-trial was not finished, that judge has been recused and most of the documentation that COIP requires to go to trial was never submitted. 1/2

    Afghan journalists say Taliban forces tortured them with batons, whips and electric cables for filming a women's protest. The Taliban also beat women protesters. At least 14 reporters have reportedly been detained and/or tortured this week, despite assurances of press freedom.

    5/8 I didn’t see footage of 9/11 until 2010, after 8 years of solitary confinement. I wept for the innocent people who died. I wept for the wars fought. I wept because my captors believed I was capable of such an atrocious act. I wept for all victims of war on terror.
