This week I had to print a four-page document, drive to a doctor’s office and hand-deliver it because they “could not accept” email attachments.
-
They have a patient portal that uses EPIC, a widely used EMR system, but no ability to upload documents electronically. The Mass. health exchange does. But not the doctor's office.

What are the odds that the information from faxes ultimately get entered into a computer?
-
Don't get me started. I've seen how it works. Those faxes are saved as images which the office makes no attempt to OCR. So the info is *in* their system but not in any indexable, searchable format. Useless data.

If I see how unsafe digital products in healthcare are, the fax is still, the most best possible way ;-) Plus, many more reasons that are hard to explain in an response on twitter :-)

I’ve encountered the same. You can’t believe the number of companies that still use fax machines. Which leads me to believe they recently got rid of the phone coupler.
