Tennessee’s new commissioner of health made his first appearance before a legislative committee Wednesday, though the Republican chairman warned members not to question Dr. Ralph Alvarado about HIV funding.

We know this has more to do with than we knew last week. There is a court injunction that would make it hard to only pull money from them. We also know the hasn’t been notified that TN won’t take money for HIV prevention. More to come.

New: Top Tennessee health officials attempted to oust Planned Parenthood from a program designed to prevent and treat HIV before eventually deciding this week to forgo federal funding for the program. My story:

Office of says the state will use its own money for HIV testing/prevention instead of and prioritize human trafficking, first responders and mothers and children. Have asked why not most at risk group, which in TN is young, Black MSM.

Yes! And the Nashville Bransfords loaned 2 slaves, Nicholas and Materson Bransford, to aid Bishop in exploring and guiding tours. One of Materson’s descendants, Jerry Bransford, is still a seasonal ranger at MCNP! I was so excited when we ran into him there 2 summers ago.

TBH, I'm not sure how much difference this will make. Very hard to tell if other states require this, but Tennessee is making either your doctor or your health plan let you know if they're having a discussion over pre-approval for coverage.

Update: Goal hit in less than 24 hours. Wow, so many friends, colleagues and acquaintances who saw fit to help out Theatry. This is a life-changing blessing for him. Updates to come.
