    The games industry has the same problem. An innovative and productive workforce can only be built if you are open to new people and ideas. It's easy to hire people who look like you but it'll be detrimental in the long run.

    This decade in my career, I... - went through two studio closures and a department layoff. - filled a over dozen design notebooks. - moved 10k+ miles to work in four cities across two continents. - seriously considered quitting games. - finally found a good, stable game studio.

    The takeaway from this piece isn't the term "self-partnered" but the fact that you can be a BAFTA recipient, UN goodwill ambassador, and beloved icon of a generation of women and people will still ask if you feel like a failure because you're 30 and not married with kids.

    Emma Watson has said she prefers to call herself "self-partnered" rather than single as she approaches her 30th birthday.
