Fitzwilliam College does not tolerate racism. We support and promote freedom of speech in our academic community, but we have zero tolerance of racism. Dr David Starkey’s recent comments on slavery are indefensible.

Fitzwilliam was founded upon values of fairness and mutual respect and we are proud of the College’s inclusive and diverse membership. The matter of Dr Starkey’s Honorary Fellowship will be considered by the Governing Body at its meeting next Wednesday.

Good to see some sort of initial response from
@FitzwilliamColl. There is really only one acceptable result. It’s not as if Starkey’s recent behaviour is unprecedented. Anything less than a swift withdrawal of the fellowship amounts to a tacit endorsement of racism.https://twitter.com/FitzwilliamColl/status/1278713454245937153 …

Genocide denial is a line no democratic European society should risk to celebrate or tolerate, for obvious historical reasons. Well said, Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge.

Let's hope that they do the decent thing. At Kings, in the old days, it is said that a Fellow could only be deprived of his Fellowship (they were all men in those days) for "gross and PERSISTENT immorality".

As a graduate student, I strongly believe that Dr. Starkey's continued honourifics are a grotesque insult to black communities - both within and beyond Cambridge - and bring shame on the whole university. They should be revoked forthwith.

Oh my God what did he say? That he wanted to abolish blackness? That black lives don't matter or how he resists the urge to kneecap black people on a daily basis? Or am I getting mixed up with a Professor from Cambridge?

As an ex student I can tell you that tolerance of his views made it clear we were second class citizens.

This is hardly his first offence! Perhaps you also find his comments on grooming by young children of 44 yr old men abhorrentas well.. Remember this from his David Dimbleby interviewpic.twitter.com/5i1BXq7SUM
