Here are my latest graphs of case and fatality counts from globalcitizen's aggregated data. The doubling time of case counts has increased to about 6 days. But be aware that labs might reach testing capacity limits in the most affected areas. [1/6]

Thanks to open data sharing by , we've updated with genome from Korea sampled on Jan 25. It is part of an emerging genetic cluster that contains viruses from Wuhan, Guangdong, England, the US, but has two additional nucleotide changes.

Can we have a serious talk about how we REALLY NEED A BETTER WAY TO NAME VIRUSES. One that won't take weeks and months!!!

A fine line between “mild symptoms” and “Asymptomatic”. Limited cough, slight headache, intermittent tiredness or, sore throat. Have one of these-is that mild symptoms or Asymptomatic? What is clear is people are infectious quite long time and from quite early after infection.

Breaking/ just tried to ban certain national newspapers from a Number 10 briefing. This is truly sinister stuff. Hats off to the BBC, ITV, Mail, Telegraph & Times for walking out too in protest, rather than let him get away with it.

Thanks to rapid data sharing by , has been updated with two genomes from England. These appear to be a transmission cluster with just one mutation difference between them. 1/2

To clarify I think academics still will drop everything to help & happily do it for free, too, because we care & love our work. But the system shouldn't depend on that.

This is really important. We need better, longterm funding & better links btwn research & public health. So that the best tools are ready when we need them, & we are not /dependant/ on academics dropping their other work & analysing pro bono.

Does anyone have stats on how many people on evac flights have tested positive for ? 2 out of 124 on the German flight did. This could provide an estimate of prevalence (PCR positivity) in Wuhan (in a non-representative immigrant population, but still...).

I see the author list. I know all of the authors. They are all great, good, smart people. But why. Why. Are you publishing 6+ author papers that only include white men? I know it's not intentional. But it is SO DISHEARTENING to the rest of us. 💔

Second time I've seen this type of sentiment (first was about Lysol). "Coronaviruses" are an entire family of viruses, which include those that are generally mild & cause colds, as well as those that cause more serious infections (SARS, MERS, ). Only the latter is new.

The Bayern German cases are interesting - one low or asymptomatic index patient visiting a small company seems to have infected multiple others through casual contact. However, most seem to have had no serious illness. Quite a mixed bag of implications there...
