While you’re in your phone’s settings, adjust your app permissions to limit access to your location details, photos and contacts. Maybe even stop notifications altogether.pic.twitter.com/TutuykSmMZ

OK this might take a few minutes on its own, but it’s important. Update your computer’s operating system if you haven’t lately! Clicking “remind me tomorrow” won’t cut it forever (you know who you are). Updating your software protects you against viruses & malware.

Why would someone with an Android call it Nana's iPhone?

-
More confusion. Even if you put another name, it's clever to call it an iPhone. I do it too, but that's because my phone has a notch and the UI is also similar. And I can't afford an iPhone so this is a compromise.

As usual I got jammed up at step 1. Couldnt find device name anywhere. I'm going to take this chance to shake my fist and speculate that they make these fucking menus byzantine and confusing on purpose.

I have a sony phone (android) and I don't have that option at all, even though my phone came with some cool developer settings. Looking at my routers dashboard, my phone doesn't even have a name. Maybe it's the same or similar for you?

Actually I set it up as {nickname}'s iPhone, while my phone isn't even one.

You forget about mac address tracking and how our device names are stored permanently and publicly for the world to see. Even if you change it the original one and every wifi network you've ever been on and everywhere youve ever been with wifi on is recorded. Someone can...

Literally piece together your entire location history with public information. It's even worse if you live in a highly populated area. Unfortunately there's not anything you or anyone else can do about it except not use Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi Direct, Android Beam or Mobile.
