so have you heard of the theory that cells and proteins and DNA were merely invented to help make more ribosomes that we are just very large ribosome carrierspic.twitter.com/PzQoQepPUi

I don't think this interpretation is very useful. For any cyclic set of dependencies you can pick a random point and say 'this is the key because without it, it all falls apart".

A (proto)ribosome without a genome to encode for it seems pretty useless. But I can envision a replicating (proto)genome adding more and better support systems over time.

that is: autocatalyzing enzymes made out of RNA, a sort of primitive proto-protein, may have predated proteins. living fossils of them are still around. the ribosome is such a fossil; the subunit that actually assembles proteins is a "protein" made of RNA

in the "RNA world" hypothesis, such things existed first, as the first form of self-propagating life, and ribosomes are their living fossils.

But you then need a mechanism to get these particular RNA sequences into a DNA genome (a reverse central dogma).

Again, you need a rationale for this to evolve using only locally-optimal selection. Evolution is about mutation and selection. I don't see a path that goes ribosome->cells unless you already know you want to build cells.

I disagree with the protein part, since ribosomes are the one producing proteins, and also protein-rich themselves. Cells developing as most efficient way of produce all that makes a lot of sense.
