I wasn't aware of that, that is interesting. But does that scan? It's not an embassy. It wouldn't be possible without our input, do we have similar privileges on US soil outside diplomatic missions?

No not an embassy. The US did run it without any real input from us for the first few years and the real change only came with ‘full knowledge & concurrence’ in the 80s’. I’m not aware of us having similar privileges on US soil though I don’t imagine we have sought them.

The concern is these exchanges are always one sided, despite how central ‘Five Eyes’ is in US-Aus relations, we don’t get similar privileges. We tend to kowtow a lot and are more than happy to disregard with our own privacy rights.
