Very sad to say today is my last day at the @canberratimes. I can't thank all my mates at the Crimes enough, thanking them here one by one would take too long.
On Monday, I'll be up at Parliament House for @AAPNewswire.

@D_JervisBardy has done incredible work on the newly minted metro round, highlighting planning debacles and suss deals. He was forced to sit at my neighbouring desk and has been so patient with me. Thanks man.Show this thread -
Long gone, but when he was here
@Trask_Journo was a mate, mentor and a great journo. He's still all those things. Yesterday's story out of Bimberi reminded me of one of his first big yarns here, exposing the horrendous state of Canberra's youth prison:https://www.canberratimes.com.au/story/6031703/revealed-the-living-hell-of-life-inside-the-bimberi-youth-detention-centre/ …Show this thread -
Likewise,
@emlybkr, a good friend and great journo no longer at the Crimes. Her passion and genuine care was visible in every story. It was contagious. This one is one of my favourites, it's also about Reclink:https://www.canberratimes.com.au/story/6017236/earringed-and-empathetic-how-mark-makes-a-difference-on-ainslie-avenue/digital-subscription/ …Show this thread -

@sallywhyte We started doing community radio together years ago (2012?) and never dreamed I'd end up working with her. It's been incredible watching her rise at the Crimes, now I get to share an office with her at parli.Show this thread -
.
@katie_b_burgess Burgo, you are a source of wisdom, clear-headedness and positivity. Thanks for always keeping an eye out for stories for me when I first started doing environments. You work so bloody hard every day, it puts us all to shame.Show this thread -
It's been incredible sitting near the sports crew,
@BlockaDutton,@cadenhelmers,@Super_Couch and@LucieBertoldo. Thanks for the laughs, the pearls of wisdom and the company.Show this thread -
.
@davidjmclennan The patience and beard of a wizard. A friendly face since day dot. Always took the time to explain numbers.Show this thread -
Speaking of numbers, the recently departed
@MarkusMannheim, who always took the time to crunch numbers and draft FOIs with me. And he always kept it weird like me. Stay weird, Mr Mannheim.Show this thread -
.
@EvanstheAirwave Again, a top journo that showed me so much patience. He brings a wonderful human touch to everything. Still laughing at his take on what would normally be a cookie cutter yarn about the new US ambassador:https://www.canberratimes.com.au/story/5992830/new-us-ambassador-slips-up-on-canberras-great-architect/ …Show this thread -
Then there's Alex Back, who is Twitterless, who toils silently and diligently at the local courts. Her coverage of Eastman and the Witness K the most recent examples of her hard work. I'll tell her this in person.

The old Sunday crew,
@ElliotAWilliams and@AndrewBrownAU. Thanks for the laughs. I'm surprised I ever got anything done, but I was always amazed by the huge amount of hard work you put into the paper everyday.Show this thread -
The hard working togs at the Crimes,
@JamilaToderas, Sitthixay Ditthavong, Dion Georgopoulos, Elesa Kurtz and@karleenminney. They've made my stories - everyone's stories - shine with their passion. Thanks folks.Show this thread -
.
@dougdingwall I don't think this man would sweat with a gun to his head, and even in the middle of maelstroms he's still taken time to help. Thanks, Doug.Show this thread -
He left us a while ago, but
@TomMcIlroy has let me stay in touch. (I'm looking forward to seeing you on the hill, dude.) I don't know why he took me under his large wings when I got to the Crimes, but I'm forever grateful.Show this thread -
My old Sunday bosses, Meredith Clisby (now my daily news ed) and
@kimlelievre. Always able to see the forest from the trees, and when I got too sucked into something, would always help pull me out.Show this thread -
Sally Pryor. Again, forced to sit near me at a neighbouring desk. She's Canberra royalty but has always treated me like a friend. I think she'd say I was more like an annoying kid brother than anything. Always had time to help me with my stories

.
@GrantNewton2 Has always been supportive, even when I was unsure of myself. Also helped me buy a car. I'm sure he'll hate being tagged here. Cheers, boss.Show this thread -
Then there's
@MeganDohertyCT, another person who finds the human in everything. Her stories always move us all. I don't know how she does it. She is just so caring.Show this thread -
.
@cassieemorgan has been killing it since she landed here. One of her recent stories pointed out the sexualised, demeaning attitude one Canberra bar had towards its female employees. This included buying shirts way too small for them:https://www.canberratimes.com.au/story/6324107/canberra-bar-sexualises-female-staff-former-employees-say/ …Show this thread -
.
@Sherryn_G, we'll always have cadet camp. And then there's the boomer / NIMBY whisperers,@jclindell and@blake_foden. I'm sure I'll be working for you all one day.Show this thread -
How good are producers?
@emilybarton1211,@PegsontheLine,@AndrewThorpe as well as Kyle, Junior and Briggs. Thanks for putting up with the late night, panicked phone calls: "Shit, we need to fix this!"Show this thread -
.
@davpope, you've been such a massive source of encouragement since I started covering the environment. Thanks for the kind advice. Needless to say, it's been a blessing sharing an office with you.Show this thread -
.
@kirstenlawsonCT Who tore me down to build me back up again, I know everything you taught me made me a better journo. Thank you.Show this thread -
And I can never thank
@jpmoloney enough for taking a massive punt on me three years ago. I don't know what he was thinking. Far out, it's been a wild ride.Show this thread -
.
@DBurdon1. Who could stare at Matrix code and get a story out of it. Thanks for all your help and kind words over the years.Show this thread -
And
@mickinman! Always encouraging, always had time to show me the ropes. That goes for journalism and surfing. Still got your short board, Mick. (And Jay Cronan, long gone tog from the Crimes who bestowed me with all his surf mags before he left. Ripper.)Show this thread
