    We now have two Open Source friendly standardisation bodies, and . There are now standardised royalty-free audio and video codecs for a variety of use-cases such as web video and lossless archiving.

    For a field concerned with compressing visual media, we (multipedia/dsp/etc) are sorely lacking in visualizations of fundemental concepts in the space. e.g. visualized animations of how transform basis functions combine to make an image - massive missed teaching opportunity.
