Area of a circle? Here's a shortcut: 78,5% of the square with side lengths that equal the circle's diameter. So, if area of that square is 10 x 10 = 100 then the area of a circle with diameter 10 is 78,5.

Therefore an ellipse would be 78.5% of its bounding box. Neat trick!
