The (=) makes it seem like y+2=(y-2)(y+1). Took me a bit to sort that. Does one not first have to prove that these expressions are finite?
x = 2 + 4 + 8 + ... 2x = x - 2 x = -2 it's also necessary to prove that they are finite values :)

Once again, I think you also need to show that those are meaningful expressions, i.e. the sequence converges.
