Ibn al-Haytham(965–1040AD)an Arab physicist also known as Alhazen, wrote very influential essays on the camera obscura, including experiments with light through a small opening in a darkened room. The invention of the camera has been traced back to the work of Ibn al-Haytham Wiki

It’s called “Qumrah”. An experiment made by Ibn AL-Haytham in the 11th century. The word (Camera) came from qumrah.

Similar process was used by Paolo Vincenzo (1636-1714) who used a pinhole to spy on his wife’s many romantic liaisons in their garden. But he misunderstood the image reversal on the parlor wall and pouted, “Non mi sta mai addosso!”
