When researchers developed a mathematical notation to describe juggling patterns and then generated all the possible ones, they found a missing one: the 441 pattern! 📝 Paper here: https://fermatslibrary.com/s/the-mathematical-art-of-juggling#email-newsletter …pic.twitter.com/jKbb7tnwvo

Here is a GIF image from Wikipedia that shows the animation for the 4-4-1 pattern looping seamlessly. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Juggling_441.gif … for the original GIF file released under GNU FDL. Also, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juggling_pattern … for many juggling patterns with interesting animated GIF images.pic.twitter.com/UP2GuBwZO4

I am surprised the article does not mention the state diagram of juggling, that allows pattern enumeration. Every pattern is a closed path on this diagram, and starting state is 111000. Here is an example of diagram for 3 balls and throws not higher than 5.pic.twitter.com/98yZCd8h4g

In this diagram, states are "landing schedules" of balls. for example, state 11010 means that there are 3 balls in the air, with one ball arriving on the next cycle, another arriving one cycle later, then there is one cycle without a ball and then the final ball arrives.

If you want to learn the siteswap notation, here is a nice video tutorial about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAoLoTmJDjY … The 441 pattern is demonstrated in the second part of the above video tutorial here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9N9X9adP75g … (at 1:20)
