The first symbols for circuit diagrams (resistor, capacitor etc) were almost all based on the physical appearance of the devices they represented. For instance, here's a capacitorpic.twitter.com/7ArPPGiZs1

Very similar to the icthibattery designed by Rulon deLesseps (1673-1745) in Liege. He alternated fresh cod with dry hazelnut shells to create electrical impulses to power his mill. It took a neighbor to point out that the mill ran due to its being on a stream not on a battery.

What a pile.
Is this discovered by A.Volta?
I guess this was not the olny design however was adopted
ولا جاف الشبه يا خوي فرمات.
Voltaic cells are awesome to read about. I recommend Elements of Electricity and Electro-Chemostry by George John Singer 1814 to see the early theory developments and experiment descriptions. Some of which would make for cool class room Experinces!
Think about how they used to think about Voltaic reactions. It was the contact of two different metals and an "imperfect conductor" which we would call an electrolyte today. the trough design made of wood was probably the inspiration for diagram symbol.pic.twitter.com/npSmhGKRP7
