I believe not, only until ~250 bc Aristarco (Greek astronomer) proposed a Sun-centered universe. Right after that Eratostenes -another Greek- estimated the earth curvature by measuring the sun’ shadow.

Just think, if they'd done their measurements more accurately, we'd have circles with 365¼°, and trigonometry would be so much harder.
