The Julian Calendar, introduced by Caesar in 45BC, was used worldwide for 16 centuries. It is actually still used today by some communities!

Hmm. Clearly November should be the 9th month, and December should be the tenth. I had assumed that July and August were the two inserted months. But if July replaced Quintilis; that means the two extra months must have come first, because Quintilis surely was once the 5th month!

(Or maybe the real problem is that the year is meant to start in March. I could look it up I suppose, but that would spoil the puzzle.)
