Along these same lines, Romanian mathematician Vislok Elmersglu (1905-1964) loved to teach senior citizens (whom he called “gammas”) differential calculus. Most students were awful at it and simply came because he bought drinks before dinner in his lab.

I had the extraordinary chance to meet Erdos back in 1996 at a junior math conference in Hungary. I presented some software and he was in the audience. After that he gave my an autograph! I still have that! Amazing person and intellect!
