LESS THAN FUN FACT: Halley’s Comet is NOT named after George Hale. It is named after Bill Halley, the 1950’s rock and roll star, even though he never had a telescope.
There's a fantastic book about the construction of the telescope called The Perfect Machine. It was an epic scientific and engineering achievement.
A tribute to his teachers! Pay them as well as doctors and engineers!
Is Haley’s comet named after him? I’m dumb, thanks for replies
No, the comet is named after Edmond Halley, a 17th century astronomer and mathematician. While the comet had been observed since antiquity, it was Halley who determined that it was periodic, returning every 76 years or so.
