Likely all reconstructions of Eratosthenes’ map agree with the established cartographic orientation, North being up and South being down. Vangelis Pantazis however, in his book "Maps and Ideologies" (only in Greek), claims that Eratosthenes actually placed the South on top. 1/2

Interestingly, Eratosthenes cause of death was honored in an odd way by cartographer Phillip Knutsakh (1734-1803 AD) when he published a map identifying countries previously omitted.pic.twitter.com/s0oR32r4qH
