        When I was a kid I discovered that any two numbers whose key patterns were 'symmetrical opposites' [?] added up to a number one digit longer made up of several 1s and one zero, i.e. 7 8 9 4 5 6 1 2 3 147+963=1,110 1495+9615=11,110 1+9=10 5+5=10

i'm pretty sure it's because the symmetric opposite number and the number itself always sum up to 10 so you'd get 10 * 1111 for a 4 digit pattern, for example

It actually worked on square shape numbed only, not on rectangle. Like125874 is not a multiple of 11

The post is referring only to typing the four vertices, not the entire perimeter. 1287 works.

The reason it says square is the 2nd term in the proof. If not square then the 2nd term will not necessarily equal to 0.

Exactly. I tried with 6 and it didn't work. It's trying to say that the digit of a number whose digits are the "vertices" of any rectangle formed are multiples.
