Archimedes is genius. In his work "On the Sphere and Cylinder" he found that the volume of a sphere to the volume of cylinder is 2 to 3. Basically he found this before projections and integrals were invented, he was ahead of his time.

So buoyant objects give you mass, perfectly suspended objects give you both volume and mass, and sinking objects give you volume only. In the video it's mass only cause it floats

The scale seems only to confuse. If the object were heavier OR lighter, with same volume, the scale wouldn’t return to the equilibrium position. Think beachball and cannonball.

The scale part only works if the object floats as the floating object displaced its weight in fluid. The rest stays above the liquid surface. If the object were denser than the liquid it would sink and the scale would not be balanced.
