I think that's ONE realistic depiction of addiction for sure. I only know one person who wasn't in complete denial about their addiction as it was going on...

I had a manager at work that was an alcoholic. Everyone knew he was an alcoholic. Everyone knew he was drinking on the job. We left him alone and he left us alone. It was easier that way. Too much HR bullshit if we tried to report him to senior leadership.

I knew a psychiatrist who defined addictions as anything a person does repeatedly that hurts him or her or causes pain. If you’ve read Michael Cohen, his relationship with Trump is a great example.

Most realistic depiction of heroin addiction I've seen is The Corner, the HBO miniseries that David Simon made before The Wire. It's based on a true story (and a book, also by Simon), but it is so accurate.
